Planning for a staging server

The staging server performs several important functions as part of the larger Web content environment and can provide a safety net between your authoring and delivery servers. By including a staging server in your environment, you can review changes in the context of entire site, previewing Web content along with other applications or aggregating content feeds from different sources.

From a quality control standpoint, the staging server provides a way for content managers and approvers to approve changes before they are syndicated into the delivery environment.

A staging environment is particularly useful if you are making large changes to your environment . This environment should closely mimic the production environment, in a smaller scale. This also is a useful environment for reproducing issues and verifying fixes, prior to putting into production.
