Use desktop applications to work with documents, then store the
documents in a place.
You can use desktop applications other than Microsoft applications
to create and edit documents and save them to a Lotus Quickr place. When you
use other desktop applications, you must save your documents to a local folder
that is monitored by the Quickr Connector File Monitor. This folder is recognized
as a monitored folder that corresponds to a folder of the same name in the
place. Whenever you create a new document and save it to the monitored folder,
or update an existing document in the folder, the new and changed documents
are automatically saved to the appropriate place, and a pop-up message confirms
that the documents have been saved.
To create a document using Windows
editing applications:
- Create or open a document from within an application.
- Click .
- Select your local folder that is monitored by the Quickr Connector
File Monitor. This is the folder that you specified when you added
the place view to Windows Explorer. If you are not sure of the folder name,
look at the place properties:
- In Windows Explorer, click to select the place name under Lotus Quickr.
- Right-click on the place name and click Properties.
- In the Properties window, the folder name is listed under Temporary
File Location.
To edit a document using desktop applications:
- Double-click on the document file name in the place under the place icon
in the Windows Explorer view.
- The file is downloaded from the place server to the monitored folder location
on your local system. The registered application for the document's file extension
is launched to open the file.
- Make the desired changes to the document in the application.
- Click in the application.
- The File Monitor detects the changed file and uploads the document to
the place.
Documents that you create and edit using desktop applications are
saved as drafts. To make these documents available to other users of the place,
you must check in the documents.
