Adding places to your places list

You can add a place on an IBM® Lotus Quickr server to your places list if you have access to the place. You can use your places list to work with documents in the place.

A document is a specific type of file in a place, for example, a Microsoft Word or Open Document Presentation file. Documents in your places list are available to you through any of the Lotus Quickr connectors that you have installed. You can only add places to your list that already exist on the server. Use the server interface to create new places on a server.

Perform the following steps to add a place to your places list:
  1. Perform one of the following actions:
    • In Microsoft Windows Explorer, click the Lotus Quickr icon, right-click, then click Add Places.
    • In IBM Lotus® Sametime®, open the Lotus Quickr pane and at the bottom of the pane click Actions > Add Places.
  2. Perform the following steps to connect to the server that contains the place to add:
    1. In the Server field, type the fully-qualified domain name for the Lotus Quickr server, for example, http://acme.com. Or if you have connected to this server before, select the server name from the drop-down list.
    2. In the User ID field, type the user ID you use to log in to this server.
    3. Select Remember this password if you want the password to be provided automatically the next time you connect to the server.
    4. Click Next to display a list of places on the server to which you have access.
  3. Select the place that you want to add to your places list.
Tip: Type the first few letters of the place name in the Find box to locate a place name in the list quickly.
  4. Perform the following steps to specify local settings for the place:
    1. Highlight the place you have selected in the list.
    2. Click Properties.
    3. If you want to use a different name for the place on your local system than the name assigned to the place on the server, you can type the local name in the blank field next to the place icon. The name you assign will only be used in your local places list. The name of the place on the Lotus Quickr server remains unchanged.
    4. In the Temporary File Location field, select or create a local folder to use to store and monitor the files from this place that you transfer to and from the server. Each place in your list requires its own folder; if you use more than one place, or you anticipate doing so, you may want to create a parent folder and then a folder within it for each place in your list.
    5. By default, double-clicking to open a document opens it and checks it out. To change the behavior when you double-click a document, click to select Prompt to check out documents when double-clicked.
    6. Click OK.
  5. Click Finish to add the place to your places list.
